Ensuring that a defibrillator is enclosed and stored properly is essential. Many store their AEDs in easily accessible areas to aid in the efficiency of use when the time comes.
When obtaining and placing your cabinet, you will need to ensure it’s accessible to bystanders and employees at all times. Checks need to be made to make sure they aren’t blocked or damaged. Many choose to fix their defibrillator cabinet where they have their first aid kit or fire extinguisher.
The reason cabinets have alarms is to deter people from tampering or damaging the defibrillator. The device is locked within the cabinet at all times apart from when it’s in use.
To gain access to the device in time of need, a call to 999 or 112 can produce a code. The phone handler will give you the details as long as the defibrillator is registered. In some cases, the cabinet may have a different number displayed which you will need to phone in order to gain access to the device.
